I’ve decided to stop paying Apple to be in their Developer Program. In short, I’ve just had enough of their greed and their shitty software.
I’ve been giving Apple AU$150 (US$100) each year for… what? Over the past four years I’ve given Apple a total of AU$600 (US$400) to use their automated app signing service a total of ten times to release free software. That’s it. Or to put it another way, it costs me AU$60 (US$40) each time I release software that I give away for free.
No longer being in the Developer Program means I won’t be able to build software that macOS will trust, because the only way to be trustworthy in Apple’s eyes is to hand over cash.
I’ll be keeping the current builds of the macOS games available for now, and they should continue to work, subject to Apple’s whims. But no new releases will be possible.
